Common Carpet Cleaning Questions

Carpet cleaner rental machines are cheaper than hiring a carpet cleaning service. Why shouldn’t I just clean my carpet myself?
Everyone can appreciate the desire to save money when possible and the upfront cost of renting carpet-cleaning machines and DIY carpet cleaning does cost less than hiring professionals, but it is not recommended.
DIY carpet cleaning can potentially damage your carpet if done incorrectly. The machines require an excessive amount of soap and water that then need to be removed from your carpet. Soap left behind will create a sticky residue while water can lead to mold and mildew growth.
If cleaning chemicals are applied incorrectly, your carpet or carpet tiles could potentially lose their color and quality.
There is also the issue of labor. Carpet cleaning is physically demanding and even more so if the equipment isn’t used properly. You don’t want to subject yourself to a possible injury.
Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln technicians are expertly trained in the carpet cleaning process as well as the necessary solutions and equipment required to get the job done correctly. If permanent damage occurs from DIY carpet cleaning, there is a chance the carpet will need to be replaced entirely, which then becomes a very expensive cost.Chem-Dry does offer
Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln does offer carpet cleaning specials throughout the year in order to provide amazing deals to our customers.
My carpet doesn’t look dirty. Do I need to have it cleaned?
This is one of the more common carpet cleaning questions. If you vacuum regularly and don’t subject your carpet to heavy traffic or wear and tear, there is a chance it won’t appear to be dirty on the surface. Vacuuming is very important.
However, that doesn’t mean that unseen dirt hasn’t become embedded deep within the carpet fibers.
It’s the deep dirt that can potentially cause permanent damage and shorten the lifetime of your carpet.
Professional deep cleaning will remove the embedded dirt, allergens and contaminants and protect your carpet from damage while also creating a fresher, healthier environment in your home.
How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
The answer to some carpet cleaning questions will depend on your cleaning routine, lifestyle and other factors.
If properly cared for and maintained, carpet should be deep cleaned once every 9-12 months. If there is a serious carpet stain such as red wine or nail polish, you will want to call a professional carpet cleaning service immediately.
Homeowners that live with pets or children or suffer from allergies might want to consider having their carpet cleaned once every 6 months to prevent build-up of contaminants and allergens.
Yearly carpet cleaning will help to extend the lifetime of your carpet and help to retain its initial quality and beauty.
What should I do before the carpet cleaning technician arrives?
Before Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln technicians arrive for your scheduled appointment, we recommend basic tidying up, removing all toys, shoes and other household items from the floor and areas you would like us to clean.
If you find the time, you can vacuum your carpet prior to our arrival, but we will still be sure to vacuum one more time before applying our cleaning solutions.
We will move couches, recliners, dining room tables and chairs and coffee tables in order to provide a thorough deep clean. However, we will not move entertainment centers, beds or heavier dressers. If you want areas beneath or behind those items of furniture it is recommended that you move them prior to our arrival.
If you have a pet, you will want to keep it away from the areas being cleaned during your appointment and shortly after until all of the carpet and upholstery has had enough time to dry. That being said, our carpet cleaning service is green-certified and 100% safe for pets should they come into contact with the wet carpet.

Is there any kind of carpet Chem-Dry can’t clean?
No. Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln is trained to expertly clean all carpet fibers and carpet styles, including Berber carpet, Frieze carpet and Saxony carpet.
My carpet includes a manufacturer’s stain protector. Do I still need to have my carpets cleaned?
Yes. Stain protectors are not permanent.
If you are buying carpet you will notice that most styles include a stain protectant. The manufacturer’s stain treatment should work very well for the first year after your carpet is installed but after 12 months it will start to wear away and the carpet strands and fibers will be exposed.
It’s also important to note that stain-resistant technology “resists” stains, but it does not prevent them. Even if a stain protector is applied, if you don’t react quickly, the likelihood is that the stain will permeate into the fibers.
After 12 months, you will want to start to have your carpets professionally cleaned. Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln also offers a stain protector that can be applied during your service and will work as well as the manufacturer’s treatment.
Can Chem-Dry remove pet urine and urine odor from carpet?
We get carpet cleaning questions about pets and pet urine all the time. Yes. Chem-Dry of Auburn/Lincoln has had a lot of success with our innovative Pet Urine Removal Treatment (P.U.R.T.®).
P.U.R.T. is an additional, multi-appointment service in coordination with our basic carpet-cleaning package that attacks and saturates pet urine stains in order to prevent further damage and remove the odor.
Pet urine is perhaps the most harmful carpet stain and requires immediate attention from a professional carpet cleaner.
If ignored, pet urine can permeate into the carpet and pad and all the way to your subfloor, causing permanent damage to both your carpet and potentially even your home.
